I simply cannot believe the ratings. Let me preface this by saying I felt the author had writing skill. There were no obvious "mistakes". The dialogue was decent (not stilted or too simplistic, etc.). The characters were interesting - the mermaid twist was cute and interesting. So what were my cons? There was no depth to the story or the characters. Lucas was totally unbelievable and not well fleshed out - his life on the island was unbelievable to me (no depth to explaining his work etc - clearly he did little apparently). The main characters interactions with her family were a good premise, but not well executed - very abrupt, no real depth their either. I felt the entire book was light on story, light on character development - but it was clear the writer had skill. Sorry. For me this missed the mark. This book will make you happy. It’s a great book, the characters are very well developed and fleshed out, the descriptions of the settings makes you want to pack your bags and head over to Siren Island in the next flight out. Not only can you relate to the characters, but amazingly enough you’ll like most of them, and you’ll cheer and root for them, but that’s not only what the author gives you (and that would be enough), no this author gives you the gift of hope, the gift that says no matter what you’re living through you can make changes to make your life your own and on happier terms. As we are approaching the holiday season, give yourself a really good gift this year, read this book, and then tell all your friends and loved ones about. Maybe the magick of Siren Island will empower you wherever you may be.
